Artist Statement: On November 11, 1903, the smash hit Edwardian musical comedy “Florodora” came to Missoula’s Union Opera House. The real stars of the musical were the sextette of “tall, gorgeous damsels, carrying frilly parasols, wearing pink walking costumes”. These damsels came to be known as the “Florodora Girls”, and their popularity and sometimes, notoriety, exceeded the life of the show, and many of them went on to huge careers, most notably Evelyn Nesbit, who became the model for the ideal beauty standard at the turn of the 19th century.
