This collaborative installation is comprised of student work from UM’s Creative Writing, Book Arts and Visual and Media Arts programs. Representing the kind of innovative cross-disciplinary engagement that is rarely found outside a university setting, it serves to both celebrate and defend the life-affirming nexus of creativity and community.

Original Mural: oil & charcoal on MDO panel
Hanger-free and customizable for any hanging or framing system. Weatherized and suitable for indoor or outdoor display.
Artist Statement: Observable to others and oneself, a body encases each of us in skin that holds memory, experience, thought, and feeling. In my work, I distort my own physical form to bring the mental and emotional sensations into the flesh. Playful objects, whimsical colors, and inexact rendering reference the joy of childhood, the speed of a moment, and blend fiction into my reality.

Writer’s Statement: I’m a poet and storyteller from the mountains of the Oregon Coast Range. My first job was baiting hooks, casting poles, and gutting fish for visitors at the pay-to-fish ponds adjoining her family’s roadside diner.

Artist Statement: My piece reflects how the past informs the present, and how the two points in time tend mirror each other in unpredictable ways. Even—or rather especially—aspects of this work that seem out of place, reference navigating the concept of timelines and consequence.

Original mural: oil on MDO panel
Hanger-free and customizable for any hanging or framing system. Weatherized and suitable for indoor or outdoor display.
Artist Statement: My work explores the physical and emotional toll of repetitive labor. I use repetition, layering, and erasure to reflect on the tension between effort and perceived value. In The Bog, I use white tic marks over a colorful, abstracted landscape to echo the slow accumulation of time, effort, and decay—revealing how labor can both build and bury.
